I'm in the decade that saw computers enter the home - during my teens at my house - and I've seen the changes you are talking about from a slightly different perspective. I think you are correct on most points and this is indeed worth thinking about, especially as parents because it seems clear that the earlier these forces are applied to the brain the bigger the changes.

I am aware of a number of people complaining of problems sleeping - they describe sleeping but feeling like their minds are continuing to zip along processing all the information they were exposed to during the day and they don't feel rested upon waking.

I saw a video of a baby operating an iPhone yesterday. Cute and, at the same time, a little frightening to think about their developmental path and how different it could be. This is all a big uncontrolled experiment - outcome unknown!

Maybe we are preparing for the evolutionary step that happens when we start directly connecting surgically implanted computational elements to the brain; we may have to evolve significantly before we are ready for that and yet the increasing frequency and duration of interacting with the net might be just the preparation we need.

Begs the question: Is that really where we want to go as a species?

@Nathan Really? Not at all? Or - you mean concurrent connections? I thought they were allowing that to some extent, I heard somewhere Skype would be able to listen for calls in the background or something. Maybe that was hearsay.

Yeah I thought so, I always thought duplicate content was deadly for search rankings - some very good information if you watch the full video. Nice site you have there.
